Education, Skills and Values, which do you rank MOST?
Over the weekend, I was in a meeting with a panel and at some point, I was asked a certain question:
Education, Skill and Values, which do you rank MOST?
It was dicey but easy to answer.
I smiled.
Education covers BOTH, I said.
While in school, we were told that our certificates were to be awarded in CHARACTER and LEARNING. This means no meaningful education takes place without value integration.
I told the panel that education was important. It provides the avenue for skills and values to be learned.
But it goes way beyond that.
Education will put you on a trajectory. It will equip you with skills that should be important to you.
Education will arm you with skills that will bring you to places of prominence.
BUT. That was not all.
You know the way we say ‘’beauty attracts, personality retains? Liken it to education, skills and values.
Education brings you to the room. Skills take you a step further to a higher position. But we need values. Values retain.
Values will ensure you REMAIN in your position.
Values will ensure you do your work. No stories.
Values will ensure you keep to time.
Values will ensure you bring excellence commitment and consistency to whatever your hands find doing.
Values will ensure you treat people right.
Values will ensure you treat your subordinates and others around you fairly, humanely, and justly.
Values will ensure you have a drop of kindness in your daily dealings.
Values will ensure you do NOT cheat.
Values will ensure you follow due process to life — due process to acquiring wealth.
Values will ensure you know about times and seasons and NOT rush your seasons.
Values will ensure you do your work well. No excuses.
Values will ensure you show up. That you take up spaces where they matter.
Values will ensure that you teach people the right thing. That you’re not just out for self-aggrandisement.
Values will ensure that you carry excellence. And trust. And humility. And loyalty. And legacy. And consistency. And resilience. And compassion. And action. And ambition. And sincerity.
Values will ensure you think big but not to the detriment of others life.
Values will ensure you know what matters the most and take care of it/them.
Values show us WHO YOU ARE. Without you saying it.
Values leave a testament to your life. It is the image people see and know about you.
Values are important. VERY important.
For businesses. For personal lifestyles. To get things done. To get a society functioning properly.
Everyone should have a value system.
I’ve talked about values over and over in this space.
It is for lack of values, our society has misplaced priorities.
Lack of values leads to moral decadence. We’re sore already.
If everyone had a value system, and lives by them, believe me, our society would have been better for it.
And I leave you with this question:
WHAT ARE YOUR PERSONAL VALUES?
Are you living up to expectations?
Or are you one of the problems our world is facing?
It is not too late to have one.
Thinkaboutrrit.
Don’t forget — I’m always rooting for you.
Oya, bai bai.
