Dear child of God, where are you functioning?

Many people see going to church as doing God a favour, not knowing it favours them more.

I’m not just talking about the spiritual aspect of church and fellowships. I’m talking about all-rounders; your career, call, ministry, and business.

Ever wondered why most churches seem to perform better than governments? It is the operational guides, the structure and the mindset accompanying such that makes it thrive.

The church has functional units that represent subsections of the outer world. Just like we have departments and sections in a company, the church operates therein, too.

These departments in church help hone skills and talents.

If you attend a ‘modern’ church with functional units and departments, you get to meet a conglomerate of people with the expertise you can glean from.

When the Bible talked about we prospering and being in good health, methinks good health is not necessarily medically inclined.

Good health also means your business and career prospering.

The Church has continued to be a nurturing ground for talents in the big industries. From film to music and the corporate world. The church offers you a beautiful platform to grow, intern and learn.

Dear young person... Please, go to church and function within the place of your passion.

You’re an intern.

A ‘workman’ (who is not ashamed).

You’re doing yourself a great disservice when you choose to be laid back about serving in Gods vineyard.

See, it comes with tangible and intangible blessings.

That’s why I advocate that you choose where you can serve fully, come rain, come sunshine.

Working therein gives you the relevant experience, exposure, recommendation and experiential learning you may need.

I’m not saying go and ‘use’ God.

Nope.

I mean go to church, serve SINCERELY, and learn. As you wholeheartedly serve, you’d learn things that’ll put you up for relevance in the marketplace. It is a two-way thing. You offer your service to God and learn from the experience to help your service to man.

The knowledge gotten from there can set you far off in life. The people you meet, too.

Many people are learning to handle administrative positions, man cameras, learning about security, Livestream events, handle public speaking, serve as maintenance officers, operate as protocols, are ushers and do follow-ups and all. These skills may never have been learned, or they even would have had to pay money to intern in organisations. But, they’re getting this knowledge FREE OF CHARGE in the church.

The church is like an organisation where you intern and learn.

You provide value and get even bigger value in return.

It was in church I discovered my Project Management Skills.

In the church, you learn to manage people.

You learn to negotiate.

You learn to tolerate.

You learn to communicate and speak.

You learn commitment and sacrifice.

You learn partnership.

You learn to care.

There’s a sense of brotherliness therein.

You belong to a family. This meets your psychological needs.

You get these and more in church. For some skills, you may only need to take some professional courses to enable you to become certified to operate professionally.

In the church, you’d grow your public speaking skills.

You’d grow your vocal cords to become a music minister.

You’d grow your acting skills leading to the movie industry.

You’d grow your financial accountability skills.

Your leadership skills get honed there.

You grow your protocol skills.

You learn customer Relationship skills.

Your people management skills.

You’d grow your project management skills.

Even your catering skills.

Your digital marketing skills.

Your Photography and video editing skills.

Just name it.

***

Forget all the ‘issues’ you see emanating from The Church.

Just take your time sincerely, dutifully, and prayerfully to be committed to a particular unit/department in church.

Do all you can to show up well.

It is a springboard, I tell you.

If you have a church with functional departments, tarry there. If there’s none and you see the need for one, talk with your pastor and start it. BE the change you want to see.

Hone your skills there.

Get the right network that could also serve as recommenders tomorrow for you.

Give your all there.

Don’t just grow spiritually.

Also, learn and grow professionally.

When we recite Psalms 71:21‘’Thou shall increase my greatness and comfort me on ALL sides’’, we perhaps, don’t understand it’s full meaning.

All sides also include your professional development.

You can get that by serving/volunteering in the church.

God said to watch and pray.

Going to church is ‘praying’. Recognising a unit and sincerely/wholeheartedly functioning there, is ‘watching’.

Bottom line:

Find a good church.

Attach yourself to a good unit.

Give your commitment fully to it.

When next you berate people for going to church and actively working and serving in their units, ask yourself what you’re missing.

‘… He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” — Hebrews 11:6.

This reward also involves your professional growth. Don’t limit God/your growth.

We don’t serve God for results. But results are manna’s we get from serving God.

This weekend, please, go to church. You’re doing yourself better, than harm.

Dear child of God, where are you functioning?

Don’t forget — I’m always rooting for you.

Oya, Bai Bai.
